Great spots for fishing

Mackinaw City Fishing Pier (Lake Huron)

Located in Mackinaw City on the old State Ferry Dock in Lake Huron, this newly built structure has one of the greatest views in Northern Michigan. The fishing pier is a great spot for a quick place to wet a line and get a breath of fresh air. Perch, Bass, Salmon and the occasional Trout are what you are looking for.

Wilderness State Park (Lake Michigan)

Lake Michigan shoreline fishing at its best. Wilderness State Park is located 8 miles west of Mackinaw City and is on the top five list of Michigan Parks. When biting, Lake Perch and Bass will have you exhausted from catching so many. Wilderness State Park is a great area to spend the entire day fishing and exploring the many acres of shoreline, so you may want to pack a lunch.

Hidden River Golf and Casting Club

Hidden River Golf and Casting Club is located 15 miles south of Mackinaw City just off US 31 on the beautiful Maple River. This upscale club specializes in golf but as the second half of the title explains has a Casting Club for fly-fishing enthusiasts. Whether you choose to have a guide teach you the masterful art of fly-fishing or go on your own, this Trout stream is one of the best in the North Country.

French Farm Lake

French Farm Lake is an undeveloped inland lake just 2 miles south of Mackinaw City. Two public access sites are available but be sure to bring a small boat without a motor. This lake is great for Bass, Pike and Bluegill. Please respect the environment and wildlife, you are sure to see plenty.

Paradise (Carp) Lake

Paradise Lake is a large inland lake just 5 miles south of Mackinaw City on US 31. There is public parking and trailer parking available at the public access site. Bass, Pike, Walleye and panfish are plentiful, so be sure to bring plenty of different bait and tackle. There is also a Bass fishing tournament in early June that is lots of fun. This lake is a great place for kids.

Bois Blanc Island (Lake Huron)

If you have the deep water fishing equipment and wish to battle the waves of the big lake, make your way to the Northeast side of Bois Blanc Island (the channels between Round Island and Bois Blanc). The island is located about 31/2 miles south of Mackinac Island. The best launching point is the Mackinaw City Marina. At times, this can be the best Salmon, Steelhead, Muskie, and Whitefish fishing in the State.
